How long until I receive compensation following my accident?

The length of time that it takes to receive compensation will depend on a number of factors.

Initially we would take steps to identify the person responsible for the accident. If the person can be traced, we would then seek to establish liability.

One of the main factors responsible for delaying settlement negotiations is incomplete recovery from the physical injuries sustained. If a Claimant has sustained serious injuries, and is still suffering as a result, our medical experts will be unable to provide a definitive prognosis. This means that the claim cannot be accurately valued, which naturally increases the length of time that it takes for the matter to settle.

It may however be possible to obtain an interim payment, in respect of part of the claim, whilst carrying out the further investigations. Interim payments are often made in respect of loss of earnings and medical expenses, but they can also be requested on account of the claim generally.

If a case goes to trial, the litigation process can be lengthy, however the majority of personal injury cases settle out of court.
